Social Research and Development Institute (SORADI)
SORADI is an independent social research and development institute, which is aiming at fostering culture of democracy and sustainable development in Somaliland and in the Horn of Africa Region. VISION: SORADI is recognized as a centre of quality research, a hub of scholarly innovation and entrepreneurship, and an agent of transfer of knowledge and harbinger of the democratic culture in the region. MISSION: SORADI’s mission is to carry out activities that promote the democratization and socio-economic development of Somaliland and in the Horn-East African region. The institute is expected to undertake participatory research and programming. These activities will lead to collaboration between diaspora and local research and development institutions, government entities, NGOs and the private sector to facilitate transfer of knowledge to foster democratization and development processes in Somaliland and in the region. SORADI will provide support to policy debate and dialogue through production and application of original and high quality applied research on the most pressing political, social and economic issues facing Somaliland and the Horn-Eastern Africa region. The institute will introduce innovative social research methodologies helping to strengthen the human and infrastructural resources to leverage research opportunities and outcomes. Finally, SORADI’s activities will lead to grounding social research and enquiry culture in Somaliland and in the region. OBJECTIVES: The Social Research and Development Institute encompasses five main objectives. 1. To nurture social research and policy debate capacity in Somaliland by creating mechanisms and a framework of collaboration and cooperation among universities, research institutes, relevant government entities, political parties, the civil society and international partners, including the diaspora. 2. To carry out high quality policy and development-oriented research and disseminate results to facilitate the democratization and socio-economic development of Somaliland and the Horn-East Africa region. 3. To foster the transfer of knowledge through Facilitation of Diaspora resources and partnership with local and international research institutions. 4. To encourage regional research cooperation aimed at regional integration for sustainable development. 5. To promote governance decentralization through capacity building of regional, district and locality bodies, through public education and awareness-raising and by organizing tailored and targeted training programs for partner interest groups.
